로스앤젤레스 경찰은 핸드백을 문고리에 절대로 걸지 말라고 한다.

전문직의 도둑들은 남아메리카 도둑학교에서 훈련받을때 큰 더플 백을 여장 화장실에 가지고 가라고 한다. 대부분 여성들은 화장실에 들어 갈때 문 갈고리에 백을 건다고 한다. 여성이 변기 커버를 빼러 뒤 도는 동시에 도둑은 위로 손을 넣어 핸드백을 가로채 더플 백에 넣고, 유유히 화장실에서 나간다고 한다. 여성은 반응할 시간도 없이 상황이 그렇게 빨리 일어난다. 

LAPD는 자신의 무릎 사이에 변기 커버를 깔고 그 위에 빽을 내려 놓는것을 추천한다. 

장기적인 해결 방법은 문 갈고리를 약 2피트 낮게 설치해 도둑의 손에 닿지 않게 하는 것이 더 좋을것 같다. 또 다른 방법은 핸드백을 놓을 수 잇게 선반을 만드는 것이다. 

이러한 문제점은 공중화장실이 가족 화장실(한공간에 대변기와 세면기가 집처럼 같이 되어 있는곳.)처럼 바뀌어야 하는 이유중의 하나이다. 이러한 스타일에 공중화장실은 미국에서 많은 인기를 얻고 있다. 주로 이러한 스타일에 화장실들은 공항에 많이 있는데 다른 공중화장실들도 이러한 스타일로 많이 개선 됐으면 한다. 



The Los Angeles Police Department says DON’T put your purse on the hook that is on the stall door. 

Professional thieves are being trained at a “thief school” in South America to walk into the women’s restrooms with large duffel bags. When a typical woman first enters the stall, she often hangs her purse up on the door hook. She then faces the wall, pulling a paper toilet seat protector from the dispenser. While the purse is out of her sight, the thief quickly sticks their hand over the stall door, grabs the purse off the hook, sticks it in their duffel bag and walks out the main door. It happens so fast the victim has no time to react. 

The LAPD recommends that women lay down toilet seat cover paper down on the floor, between your knees, then put your purse on that. 

I think a better long-term solution is to convince the management to install an additional hook about two feet lower on the door. That would put it out of reach of anyone who wants to grab it from outside your stall by sticking their arms over the door. If the additional hook was installed lower you could grab it while you’re on the toilet if you needed to. Another alternative to a second hook is a small shelf to place your purse on. 

In my opinion, this is just one more good reason to use the “family” restroom (which is really just a single toilet ad sink type bathroom like you have at home) to do your business at an airport. They have become popular in the USA. Hopefully, architects will notice how popular these have become in airports and install them standard in ALL public places.
